Introduction

Department of Forensic Medicine is located on FAYI Building, Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University (former Shanghai Medical University). Forensic Medicine is a branch of the practice of medicine that produces evidence useful in the public administration of justice, public health, and public safety by using the medical principles. The department was founded and approved to recruit the undergraduate students and graduate students of master degree in 1984. More than 300 bachelors and masters of Forensic Medicine have graduated from this department. The department undertake a lot of teaching works for professional students every academic year, and is made up of six teaching groups: forensic pathology, forensic biology, toxicologic analysis, forensic toxicology, clinical forensic medicine and criminal photography. At the same time, this department offers forensic appraisment such as pathological appraisal of dead body, determination of injury degree, toxicant analysis and identification of disputed paternity. The major research area of this department is "death time and wound interval". In recent years, it has been undertaken 5 research projects from National Natural Science Foundation, the Ministry of Health and the Shanghai Scientific Commission, etc. Prof. Zhao Ziqin, an academic leader and supervisor of MS. student, is the chairman of this department.
